Capital Bank is joining Peoples Bancorp
To our customers –
On September 30, we announced that Peoples Bancorp has agreed to acquire Capital Bancorp, the parent company of Capital Bank. When the transaction is complete, Capital Bank will become part of Peoples Bank.
I believe this combination brings together strengths that will serve our customers well: the relationships and specialized expertise our team has built at Capital Bank, supported by Peoples’ broader banking and financial services platform. We are excited about the opportunity to do more for you as we bring our organizations together.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to required approvals and other closing conditions. For now, please continue banking with us as you normally do. No action is needed. Your Capital Bank team remains available, and we will communicate with you before any future changes affect how you bank.
Thank you for the trust you place in us. We value the relationships we have built with you and look forward to serving you through this next chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
What was announced?
Peoples Bancorp has agreed to acquire Capital Bancorp, Capital Bank’s parent company. After the acquisition closes, Capital Bank is expected to merge into Peoples Bank. The transaction has not closed, and the banks continue to operate separately.
Who is Peoples Bancorp?
Peoples is a regional financial services company headquartered in Marietta, Ohio. Through Peoples Bank and its other businesses, it offers banking, investment, insurance and specialty financing services. Peoples already serves customers in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Why are Capital Bank and Peoples coming together?
We believe our organizations bring complementary strengths. Capital Bank contributes deep customer relationships, commercial banking expertise and businesses with national reach. Peoples brings a broader platform and additional resources. Together, we see an opportunity to serve customers in more ways over time.
When will the transaction be complete?
The companies expect the acquisition to close in the first half of 2027. The timing depends on regulatory and shareholder approvals and other closing conditions. We will share updates as milestones are reached.
Do I need to do anything now?
No. Continue using your Capital Bank accounts and services as you do today. We will contact you directly with clear instructions if you need to take any action later.
Will my accounts, cards, checks or online banking change?
Nothing changes as a result of the announcement. Continue using your current accounts, cards, checks, online and mobile banking, and payment instructions. We will give you advance notice of any changes that affect your banking.
Are my fees changing?
No. Your current account fees are not changing as a result of the announced combination. If there any changes in the future, we will notify you in advance.
Should I change how I make loan or credit card payments?
No. Continue making payments as you normally do. If payment or servicing instructions change in the future, we will communicate with you directly.
Can I use Peoples Bank branches or services now?
Not yet. Capital Bank and Peoples Bank continue to operate separately while the transaction is pending. Please continue banking with Capital Bank through your usual channels.
Will I still work with my Capital Bank banker or team?
Your current Capital Bank contacts remain available. We know how important those relationships are and will keep you informed as plans for the combined bank develop.
Will the Capital Bank name change?
Capital Bank is expected to become part of Peoples Bank after the acquisition closes. We will tell you when any change to our name, systems or services will affect you. There is no change today.
Are my deposits still FDIC insured?
Yes. Capital Bank remains a Member FDIC, and eligible deposits continue to be insured under applicable FDIC limits. If you also hold deposits at Peoples Bank, coverage after the banks merge may depend on your account ownership and timing. Your banker can help you review your situation, and you can learn more from the FDIC’s deposit insurance guide.
