Ed Barry joined Capital Bank as Chief Executive Officer of the Bank and Holding Company in September 2012.  In 2026, he shed most of his day-to-day activities but retained his role as Holding Company CEO. Currently, he is focused on investor relations, M&A, strategic initiatives and select operating responsibilities.

Under his tenure as CEO starting in 2012, the bank has grown ~10x in size to $3.5B in assets and rapidly expanded throughout DC, Baltimore and nationwide areas. Mr. Barry architected the strategy of focusing niches and verticals by leveraging technology, marketing, data and analytics to power top-tier results.  The bank currently operates a diversified business model across Commercial Banking, Government Guaranteed Lending, Mortgage, Credit Cards and Servicing business lines, all of which have grown considerably under his tenure.  He diversified revenue streams by scaling fee-based businesses through digital channels and products to account for over 20% of revenues.  In 2018, he led the company to a successful IPO and the stock has increased over 100% since then, greatly outperforming industry benchmarks.

Capital Bank has consistently been recognized as one of the top banks in the U.S. due to its financial and risk performance and has been named six times as one of the Top Banks to Work to Work For by American Banker.

Mr. Barry was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Mid-Atlantic region, in 2017.  He has been featured on NBC, Fox, NPR, Bloomberg, CBS, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, New York Post, American Banker, ABA Marketing, Euromoney, NASDAQ, Washington Business Journal and the Washington Post.  He is frequently invited to speak on industry panels. 

Previously, Mr. Barry was Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Analytics for Capital One Bank where he led the product, analytics and marketing teams for the Small Business division.  Prior to Capital One, Mr. Barry worked at Bank of America as a Strategy Consultant for EY/Capgemini.

Mr. Barry received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Relations from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.

He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mid-Atlantic, and as the Co-Chair for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night event.  Mr. Barry is married and lives in Virginia with his wife and three children.
